Black Friday Email Ideas for Small Business: 10 Emails to Send (and When)
(Want the emails already written for you? Grab The Black Friday Email Kit.)
Every November, inboxes fill up with the same email: "BLACK FRIDAY SALE! 30% OFF!" Then another one. Then another one. And most of them get deleted without being opened.
Here's the thing. Black Friday is still one of the best weeks of the year for small businesses, but the ones that do well aren't the ones shouting the loudest. They're the ones who warmed up their list weeks before, so when the offer lands, people are already waiting for it.
Email is still the one marketing tool you actually own. No algorithm, no reach drop. So whether you sell products, services or something in between, here are 10 Black Friday email ideas for small business, plus exactly when to send each one.
Key dates for Black Friday 2026
Black Friday: Friday, November 27
Small Business Saturday: Saturday, November 28
Cyber Monday: Monday, November 30
Giving Tuesday: Tuesday, December 1

10 Black Friday email ideas for small business
Early November: warm them up
The "meet me" email. New people join your list all through November. Reintroduce yourself: who you are, why you started, and what you're excited about this season. Show them there's a real human behind the business. Bonus: it reminds people who've been on your list for a while why they signed up.
The helpful email. Teach something before you sell something. A how-to, a quick tip, a "3 things I wish my clients knew" email. A realtor can share what to know about buying in winter, a spa can share a winter skin routine. When you've given value first, your offer feels like the natural next step.
The behind-the-scenes email. Show the prep. Packing orders, testing a new product, setting up your space, your planner covered in sticky notes. People love seeing how things are made, and it makes your business feel personal. A phone ring light makes quick photos and videos look so much better on dark November days.
The "help me choose" email. Ask your list a question: "Which of these should go on sale for Black Friday?" or "What's on your wish list this year?" Replies and clicks tell you what people want, and they make your emails more likely to land in the inbox (not the promotions tab).
Mid November: build the buzz
The VIP early-access email. Tell your subscribers they'll get first dibs before the deal goes public. This one email is how so many small businesses grow their list in November. Post about it on social: "Want early access? Join my list."
The gift guide email. Round up your best products or services by person or budget: "For the mom who does it all", "Under $50", "For the business owner". Service businesses can do this too, with gift cards, packages or bundles.
The "real results" email. Share a customer story or review. One real before-and-after or a quote from a happy client does more selling than any discount ever will.
Black Friday week: make the offer
The subscribers-first offer email. Send your deal to your list first, ideally the night before or early Friday morning. Keep it simple: what it is, how much you save, when it ends, one big button. If you ship products, a thermal label printer will save your sanity when the orders roll in.
The Small Business Saturday email. This is your day. Tell your story, thank your community, and remind people that buying from you supports a real family. Here in Golden, BC, shop-local means everything, and people love being part of that.
The "last chance" and thank-you email. Send a reminder before your offer ends on Cyber Monday. Then, a few days later, send a thank-you to everyone who bought, with no ask attached. That thank-you email is what turns a one-time Black Friday buyer into a customer for years.
Don't want to do a sale at all? You don't have to. Some of the most memorable Black Friday campaigns weren't discounts. Patagonia famously ran a "Don't Buy This Jacket" ad, and REI closed its doors on Black Friday and told people to #OptOutside. A small business can do the same: give back on Giving Tuesday, share a free resource, or send a "here's what we're grateful for" email. Being seen matters more than being the cheapest.

How to make it easy on yourself
Write all of these in one sitting (a cozy afternoon, a coffee, an undated weekly planner), then schedule them. You don't need to be at your desk on Black Friday hitting send.
I write, design and schedule my emails (and my clients') in Ivorey. It holds my email list, my automations, my website and my social scheduling in one place, so I'm not paying for five different tools.

Quick answers
When should I start sending Black Friday emails?
Start warming up your list in early November, about 3 to 4 weeks before Black Friday. Save your actual offer for Black Friday week, and send it to subscribers first.
How many emails should I send for Black Friday?
Around 8 to 10 emails over November works well for most small businesses: a few value emails to warm people up, then 3 to 4 offer emails during Black Friday week, then a thank-you.
What should I write in a Black Friday email?
Keep it short and clear: what the offer is, who it's for, how much they save, when it ends, and one button to shop or book. A personal line about why you're excited goes a long way.
Do Black Friday emails work for service businesses?
Yes. Offer gift cards, packages, bundles or a bonus (like a free add-on), and use the warm-up emails to show your expertise. Spas, coaches, photographers and realtors can all use this plan.
What if I don't want to run a Black Friday sale?
Send value instead: a free resource, a gratitude email, or a Giving Tuesday donation. Staying in the inbox during the busiest shopping week still keeps you top of mind.
